Being raised Catholic, the Lenten season was always a big part of my life. As an adult, I’ve moved away from the Catholic Church but have kept the idea of giving something up for Lent.
For the past few years, I’ve given up alcohol in some capacity –
– All Alcohol Sunday – Thursday
– Beer and Wine
This year, we’re going big – I’m giving up two big items.
Meat.
Rules. We will be moving to a Pescatarian diet 6 days a week.
The Why. We wanted something that would be challenging, but allowing us grace one day a week. I am really excited to make this change and see how committing to this will impact our bodies.
Shopping.
Rules. Giving up shopping for 40 days. I am allowed to grocery shop, go out to eat with a limited budget, and buy a gift for someone else. I cannot buy myself new clothes, accessories, shoes, anything frivolous.
The Why. For the past few years, I’ve felt like I have a shopping addiction (or boarding one). I want to take the steps to get my spending under control and start the year off right. I think I will learn a lot about myself over the next 40 days and am looking forward to it.
